Preparing for the unknown
Viruses have shaped human history — and will continue to do so. Some, like influenza or coronaviruses, emerge suddenly and spread fast. Others, such as Nipah or Marburg, lurk quietly in wildlife before spilling over into human populations. Each new outbreak reminds us that preparedness is the strongest defense against pandemic threats.
The NAVIPP mission
The New Antivirals for Infections with Pandemic Potential (NAVIPP) consortium brings together leading European and international partners to build a robust antiviral discovery platform. Our goal is simple but ambitious:
– Develop a diverse pipeline of broad-spectrum antivirals.
– Strengthen Europe’s capacity to anticipate and respond to high-consequence viral threats.
– Contribute to a One Health approach, protecting humans, animals, and ecosystems alike.
Through cutting-edge science — from high-throughput screening and innovative drug delivery to advanced infection models — NAVIPP is laying the groundwork for tomorrow’s resilience.
Why this series
This is a space to:
– Share scientific updates and breakthroughs in virology, antiviral research, and surveillance.
– Highlight the importance of preparedness, connecting laboratory findings to public health impact.
– Showcase how NAVIPP contributes to Europe’s readiness for the next pandemic.
Join us on this journey
The articles you’ll find in this series explore recent discoveries, from hidden viruses in bats to climate-driven disease risks, and show how they connect to NAVIPP’s mission. Each story is a reminder: preparedness today means resilience tomorrow.
